Minor League (10 & Under) Baseball

Minor League 10U baseball is a fun team game, played within the Auckland Baseball Association league under Little League rules.  Games are played on a junior diamond – with 70’ base-paths and a 50' pitching distance. Many players are new to Baseball, so the focus is on learning skills, having fun and enjoying the game.

Game win/losses are recorded on My Ball Club, and may be played off for team positions at the end of season.  However, the focus is really on fun & participation!

For the 2021/2022 season we hope to field one - two teams of between 12-14 players.

Season Details: Registrations open in August,  Pre-Season training starts in September, with Season Training kicking off in early October, games start in late October.  ABA league breaks for Christmas resuming in mid January.  The season ends in late March or early April.  A 10U Minor League Tournament is often hosted by Bayside in late January.

Age: For the 2021/2022 season players who will turn 11 after 31 August 2022 are eligible to play in the 10U grade.

Example #1 - the child will turn 11 on 28 August 2022, they must register for the 13U grade

Example #2 - the child will turn 11 on 13 October 2022, they are eligible for the 10U grade

Note: dispensations are not permitted to play down a grade.

What you need: All players are supplied with a club jersey for games, once fees are paid, which must be returned at the end of the season.

Players will need to provide the following equipment - see the guys at The Fieldhouse or The Dugout.

  • Cap - these can be purchased from our Tuck Shop or request here.

  • Pants – grey baseball pants

  • Belt - black or royal blue

  • Glove – players may prefer to have their own baseball glove, however, the club has a supply of gloves available to players at this grade.

  • Shoes – Players may wear sneakers, football boots or baseball cleats, although cleats are not compulsory. No metal cleats are allowed.

  • Male players require a box / athletic protector - it is suggested that every male player to wear a box / athletic support.

Bayside has a selection of second hand gear including pants, belts & gloves available for purchase pre-season.  All other gear & equipment is provided by the club, including bats, batting helmets, catchers gear, balls etc.

Teams: We will likely have 1 team for the 2021-22 season.

Training: Training is weekly for 90 minutes on a Wednesday. Training is a fun, skills based session with a fun game designed to get all kids involved and learning.

Games: 10U home games are generally played on the #3 or #4 Junior Diamond at Crossfield Reserve, Glendowie.  Games are generally held on Saturday mornings at 9am.

Away games will be played during the season at other clubs from Hamilton to Orewa.  A schedule will be available closer to the season start date.

Cost: $225 for the season including your Training Shirt ($200 Early bird discount).  Fees cover equipment, field maintenance, ABA & BNZ Affiliation fees.

Safety: Many of the rules of baseball, particularly at the younger age groups are focused on player safety.  10U grade is umpired by parents, coaches & junior players, who will be given basic training to ensure they can enforce player safety rules.

Want to help out?  This grade requires parent participation and is particularly good for parents getting to know the game. Get involved and support your child's team as a scorer, umpire, team manager, game-day coach or assistant coach. Just comment in your registration or let us know.
